Take a dinner cruise on the Savannah River Queen! No; we did not try it, but she is very stately. My first time in Georgia in 2012.

Launched in 1989, having been built in Brazil, the Peacemaker was originally called the Avany. It is currently owned by the fundamentalist religious group known as the Twelve Tribes.

Across the Savannah River this is The Savannah International Trade and Convention Center,

Next door to the convention center this is The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa. It does not cost as much as the extravagant name suggests!

The Juliette Gordon Low, one of the boats run by the Savannah Belles Ferries. It provides a link between Savannah and Hutchinson Island where both the convention center and the Westin are located.

The statue of "The Waving Girl" by Felix de Weldon. Her real name was Florence Martus. For 44 years between 1887 and 1931, she waved a handkerchief during the day and a lantern at night to every ship entering or leaving the port of Savannah. Click the image for a detailed account of her life.

The "Georgia Queen", another paddle steamer plying the Savannah River for tourists.

The Cracked Earth monument; a tribute to those who died in WWII. The names of soldiers who died are inscribed on the globe and the sidewalk.

The winged lion, or gryphon, statue outside the Old Savannah Cotton Exchange . It was destroyed by a car in 2008 and subsequently restored. Wonderful!

Named for the fourth President of the US, James Madison, Madison Square dates back to 1837. The later statue (1888 by the American sculptor, Alexander Doyle) depicts Sgt. William Jasper recovering his company's banner during the Seige of Savannah in 1779. The square is sometimes known as Jasper Square. The cannon are from the Revolutionary War era.

The W. B. Hodgson Hall on Whitaker Street in Savannah. It was purpose built in 1875 for the Georgia Historical Society, that had been founded in 1839. The next image shows how it looked around 1940.

A friendly Savannah squirrel.

Named for Georgia Governor, Congressman, and Senator, George Troup, Troup Square was established in 1851. Troup received the Marquis de Lafayette when he visited Georgia in 1825 during his grand tour of the US.

The large armillary sphere in the center of the square dates back to 1870. The sphere is supported by six turtles.

We took a bus tour of Savannah, and this was our rather colorful, English, tour guide!

Constructed in 1790, the 17Hundred90 hotel and restaurant is the oldest in Savannah. Their automobile looks even better with the roof down!
