Battery Brumby had four eight-inch guns each weighing about 32,000 pounds. They had a range of about 16 km (10 miles).

Completed in 1898, Battery Brumby was the first built on Fort Screven. It was started in 1897 and was the only one that was in service during the Spanish American War (April 25th to August 12th 1898)
