The original Point Wilson lighthouse was a wooden tower built in 1879 with a fourth-order Fresnel lens. After it deteriorated, the current 14m (46 ft) reinforced concrete octagonal tower replaced it in 1914. The Fresnel lens continues in use, though the lighthouse was automated in 1976.
