The perking lot was quite empty when we arrived at the lighthouse.

A short walk through the woods leads to the tip of Campobello.

The first glimpse of the lighthouse in the distance.

Built in 1829, Head Harbour (or East Quoddy to Americans) Lighthouse sits on a small rocky outcropping just off the northern tip of Campobello Island in Canada. The tower is 51 feet (just over 15.5 meters) tall with a red cross and a red lantern room.

There are five buildings on the site comprising the light tower, a keepers house, a building to house the fog alarm, built in 1914-15, a work shed also built in 1914-15, and a boathouse built in 1947.

The large red cross was added to the lighthouse in 1842, as a day marker, when a larger lantern room was installed to accomodate the 8 lamps with 22 inch reflectors.

By 1875, the lighting had been improved with seven "mammoth" flat-wick lamps with using 18-inch reflectors.

The Head Harbor Lighthouse is known as the East Quoddy Lighthouse in the US.

In 1887, the lighthouse received a new iron lantern room with a third-order Fresnel lens. It was automated in 1986.
