New London Harbor Lighthouse

New London Harbor, CT

A series of views of the New London Harbor lighthouse which is located on the shore of the Thames River just outside of the town of New London.

Built in 1801, it was the third structure built. The first, built around 1750, was a simple beacon and was replaced by a 64 foot tall stone tower in 1761.

The current tower is 89 feet tall, and is the oldest lighthouse in Connecticut.

The fourth order Fresnel lens, from 1857, remains in use, though it was automated in 1812.
