The Breakers, Newport Mansion

One of the most famous of the cottages, The Breakers was the summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II and his wife, though he did not get to spend much time there as he died 1899.  It has 70-rooms in 65,000 square feet (c. 6,150 square meters) of living space. Completed in 1895, it cost more than $12 million; the equivalent of nearly $350 million today. The architect was Richard Morris Hunt.
