De La Salle was built for William Gordon Weld II in 1884. From 1924 to 1972, it was used as part of a private boy's school, the De La Salle Academy.  The academy having closed in 1972, the house suffered the ignominy of conversion into condominiums.  At least it was not demolished as so many of the great mansions were.
