Prince Nicholas Abkhazi and Peggy Pemberton Carter (born in Shanghai) met in Paris in 1922 and continued to meet periodically until 1933. They did not meet again until after the war when they met in New York in 1946 and married. They moved to Victoria and started to build the "Abkhazi Gardens" in 1946.
