Alaskan Cruise - Hoonah

Hoonah, Alaska

Keeping a look out for wildlife as we take the new path towards Hoonah.

The road has been cut through this huge mass of rock.

Spotted this little fellow on the side of the road.

A Bald Eagle; probably looking for its next meal.

We saw several Bald Eagles on our walk.

On the outskirts of the city. It has a year round population of about 860, over 60% of whom are Tlingit people.

Hoonah is on the eastern side of the north coast of Chichagof Island which is the 5th largest island in the United States.

The city of Hoonah is the main village of the Huna people, who are part of the Tlingit. They originated in the Glacier Bay area many hundreds of years ago, but were forced to move due to glaciation, and ended up in what we know as Hoonah today.

The Alaska Pirates Pride is a 1927 Tug Steamboat, now diesel powered. Originally a Tug, she was used later as an adventure boat. Recently, she was refurbished, but since I took this photo, she has been put up for sale.

Pirate's Pride, again, but I have been unable to find out anything about the Neptune.

Mary's restaurant gets high praise for its food. It changed ownership between 2013 & 2014. Prices seem fair for Alaska; the halibut seems especially well priced.
