Peggy's Point Lighthouse, Peggy's Cove, NS, Canada

Peggy’s Point Lighthouse, often called Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse was built in 1914-15.

It sits on a massive granite outcrop at the eastern side of entrance to St. Margarets Bay.

Built in 1868, the original lighthouse was a wooden keepers house that had a tower containing a beacon on its roof. It used a kerosene oil lamp with a parabolic reflector showing a red light.

When the new lighthouse was completed, the old house became the keepers cottage. The new lighthouse showed a white light rather than the red light of the old lighthouse. The lantern housing was also painted white.

The keepers house was removed in 1954 after it was badly damaged by Hurricane Edna.

The light was, originally, red but went through a series of changes to white (when the new lighthouse was built), then to green in 1979, and back to red in 2007, which is what it now shows.

It is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world.
