New London Ledge Lighthouse

New London Ledge, CT

Here is a series of views of the New London Ledge lighthouse.

The lighthouse was built in 1909, and represents the French Second Empire style of architecture.

To me, it bears more than a passing resemblance to the rather smaller Hudson-Athens light on the Hudson river in New York that you can see elsewhere on this site.

Originally called the Southwest Ledge light, it was renamed the New London Ledge Light to avoid confusion with the Southwest Ledge Light in New Haven, CT.

The light was automated in 1987 and the original fifth order Fresnel lens replaced with a Vega Industries VRB-25.
