Built in 1870 on Rose Island in Narragansett Bay near the Newport Bridge between Newport and Jamestown. In the photograph it looks very close to the land behind it, but in fact it is located roughly centrally between Newport and Conanicut Island; about 1.6 km (one mile) from each!
