New York State
On February 23, 1821, Livingston County, New York was formed from Ontario and Genesee Counties. Despite competition from other towns and villages, Geneseo, the principal village and center of commerce, became the county seat. The county sits at the western end of the Finger Lakes and includes Conesus Lake, with Hemlock Lake on its eastern border, though that lake is in Ontario County.
There is a comprehensive web site with abundant information on the county and the town and villages within its borders.
