Seydisfjordur, Iceland

Homes around the Fjarðará, the little lake in Seydisfjordur that is fed by the Fjardara river that feeds, in turn, into the fjord. There is a small, seemingly un-named, island near the center.

Arriving at Seyðisfjarðarkirkja; the Blue Church. The road to the church is now painted in bright colors. It is called Regnboga Vegur or Rainbow Road.

Next to the Blue Church there is a sculpture that I believe commemorates the 24 people who were killed by an avalanche in 1885 when a number of houses slid into the fjord.

I guess the town gets quite a lot of snow in Winter! Certainly the average temperatures are much milder in Winter than ours in upstate New York.

Scenic pictures of the fjord as we set sail and depart Seydisfjordur and head to the Faroe Islands.

Although we did not visit it, Tvísöngur is a sound sculpture by the German artist Lukas Kühne. It is an homage to Icelandic musical tradition, and works as a natural amplifier for five-tone harmony.
