Early morning approach to Bergen. Bergen is known as the "city of seven mountains", and is the second largest city in Norway.

The original city of Bergen, founded in 1070, comprised the area known today as Bryggen, "the dock", or Tyskebryggen, "the German dock". Because of several fires that destroyed the original structures, most of the buildings are recent; built after 1702.

Bryggen Tracteursted, a traditional Norwegian restaurant located on Bryggestredet. The reviews seem quite good, and the prices are quite cheap for Norway!

On the left, a sculpture of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. It stands about 3.5 m (over 11 feet) tall in front of Den Nationale Scene, the National Theater, on Engen. On the right, a gold "statue". He never moved once while we were there.

The left hand image shows a view of the city, while on the right is St. John's Church (Johanneskirken), the largest in Bergen seating about 1,250 people. Built in the Gothic Revival style from 1891 to 1894 when it first opened. The architect was Herman Major Backer. The 61m (200 foot) tall tower is the highest in the city.

Located on the island of Store Marstein, just west of the island of Stora Kalsøy, the Marstein Lighthouse is a 17-metre (56 ft) tall square, white, tower with a lantern room. It is attached to a small maintenance building. Built between 1949 & 1950, it replaced an octagonal shaped lighthouse dating from 1877.

Construction of the Askøy suspension bridge started in 1989 and finished in 192. It is 1,057 meters (3,468 ft) long with a main span of 850 meters (2,789 ft), and crosses the Byfjorden. The 2 concrete pylons are 152 meters (500 ft) tall.
