Newport, RI - Isaac Bell House or Edna Villa

Completed in 1883, The Isaac Bell House, was built by Isaac Bell, Jr. a cotton broker and investor.

Samuel Barger, who was Cornelius Vanderbilt's lawyer, bought the house in September 1891. He named it the "Edna Villa" after his daughter.

Vincent J. Scully described it as a masterpiece of the Shingle Style, which he referred to as "the first modern American style" in his 1952 book, "The Shingle Style".

Like De La Salle, the house had suffered conversion into condominium apartments until the Preservation Society of Newport County purchased it in 1994 and opened it to the public as a museum after an award winning restoration.
