Starting with several general views of the buildings, streets and wharfs around Newport.

The Travers Block (designed by the architect Richard Morris Hunt and built in 1870-1871) is to the left in this picture with, to the right, the Newport Casino (which was built in 1880 for James Gordon Bennett). Although called a "casino", this was a place of entertainment for wealthy visitors.

The King Block is on the left in this picture. It was built between 1893 and 1894. The final building on the right is the Audrain Building, built between 1902 and 1903. It now holds a classic car museum.

Diversions at the Casino included archery, billiards, bowling, tennis etc., as well as tea parties, plays, concerts and dancing. The Newport Casino building is now home to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. This picture was taken just inside the entrance.

This, and the next five, pictures show Annie's where we often take lunch when we are in Newport. Located at the beginning of Bellevue Avenue, in the Travers Block, it is an ideal location.

This is the Blue Plate Diner in Middletown, just north of Newport. Good food, service, prices, plus proximity to our usual hotel make it a regular hangout in the evening.

These pictures show the Ida Lewis Yatch Club which is named for a famous Newport lighthouse keeper who was often called the "bravest Woman in America" for her amazing rescues. The Lime Rock lighthouse was re-named the Ida Lewis Light in her honor. The lighthouse is now the clubhouse of the yatch club, and is seen at the end of the pier.

Visiting Touro Park which is a small park justoff Bellevue Avenue. Its main claim to fame is the strange stone structure which is surrounded in mystery!

The Channing Memorial Church built in 1881-1. The statue is of William Ellery Channing (1780-1842), the foremost Unitarian preacher of his time.
