(Xi) baryons have one up or down quark plus two heavier quarks. They are unstable, and decay rapidly into lighter particles.  Brookhaven National Laboratory first discovered it in 1964.  The bottom X, discovered by Fermilab in 2007, was the first particle found with a quark from each of the three quark generations; down, strange and bottom, all of which are down type quarks.
