Pea galaxies (Green Peas or GPs), are relatively small at about 5,000 parsecs or less in diameter with masses around 3.2 billion solar masses. The average redshift is z=0.258 corresponding to a "now" distance of roughly one thousand mega-parsecs. These galaxies tend not to have active nuclei, but have a high rate of new star formation; perhaps 10 solar masses each year. Our Milky Way galaxy, with a diameter around 50,000 parsecs, produces less than 2 solar masses each year.
